Mayor Regina Romero proclaims Sunday, April 21 as
Tucson Masterworks Chorale Day

Whereas, Tucson Masterworks Chorale (TMC) was founded in 1949 in Tucson as the Desert Singing Guild, by a group including Sam Goddard, Jr., who later became governor of Arizona,
Whereas, the name was changed to the Tucson Civic Chorus in 1952 and then to Tucson Masterworks Chorale in 1984, to better reflect the superior quality of chorus performances, and the group’s increasing importance to Tucson’s cultural climate,
Whereas, TMC has been bringing Arizona audiences together with beautiful music for 75 years, and is committed to making live performances of iconic choral music accessible to the community of Tucson,
Whereas, TMC remains committed to offering the opportunity to sing for people of all ages, regardless of their musical training or talent, all walks of life, and values diversity and inclusion,
Whereas, TMC strives to present music from a diverse demographic, including women and minorities, as well as contemporary composers, and features local musicians in their concerts,
Whereas, TMC continues to perform and collaborate with other choirs and musicians in the area, and looks forward to remaining a part of Tucson cultural activity for another 75 years,
Now, therefore, I, Regina Romero, Mayor of the City of Tucson, Arizona, do hereby proclaim April 21, 2024 as
Tucson Masterworks Chorale Day
in this community and encourage all residents to join me in congratulating and celebrating TMC on this amazing milestone.  May they continue to sing and entertain our community for many more years to come!

Thank you Mayor Romero for the honor!
